Personalised recognition is your most cost-effective retention tool
Employers need simple, effective ways to keep staff engaged, with turnover rising and budgets under pressure. Forget costly perks. A well-timed thank you or personalised message does more to keep people loyal
Retaining employees is one of the biggest challenges facing employers in 2025. According to the Office for National Statistics’ Annual Population Survey, more than a quarter (27.4%) of people change jobs yearly, with a further 6.6% leaving the workforce entirely. More than a third (34%) move on from their roles annually.
This level of turnover comes at a cost. Employers must invest heavily in recruitment when the labour market is tight. New starters often take time to reach full productivity, and budgets for pay rises or bonuses are under pressure. At the same time, remote and hybrid working can lead to feelings of isolation or disconnection from the organisation, making it harder to keep people engaged.
Compounding the issue, a significant portion of employees feel undervalued. A study by Cognexo found that 45% of employees feel undervalued by their employers, contributing to disengagement and a lack of enthusiasm at work.
