Say goodbye to hiring guesswork: The case for talent assessments

CVs tell you where a candidate has been, but not what they can do. Science-based skills assessments give you a clearer, bias-free way to evaluate candidates, helping you hire with confidence

For any organisation looking to recruit, it’s vital to have an effective means of assessing candidates, both to ensure that the best person is brought into the business and that the hiring team can operate efficiently.

The traditional method of relying on CVs and manual assessments can be anything but effective or efficient. Kim Severinsen, head of science and assessment innovation at talent assessment firm TestGorilla, points out that CVs are inherently subjective and biased and that candidates often undersell or embellish their experience and qualifications.

“They often describe ‘what’ a candidate has done but can overlook ‘how’ they have done it, missing transferable or universal skills such as collaboration or problem-solving, or ‘fit’ factors such as values, culture and motivation,” she explains. Sifting through applications manually, meanwhile, is highly time-consuming and can mean the process lacks consistency, especially if more than one person is involved in reviewing applications.
